A Spooktacular Day

Its 1 in the afternoon and I am happy to say that its "TGIF" for me.
My day started at 9 in the morning and after I'm done with school, its home sweet home.
As you know, Halloween was just yesterday and I did manage to dress up this year.
However, most people dressed up on Saturday instead of yesterday because it was a weekend night.
If you have seen my instagram, you would have already known what I dressed up as.

Tadaaaaa!

The Black Swan!
If you're not aware who is this, please bang your head against the wall.
Here's the breakdown of how I was able to complete the whole outfit on a budget.

1) Bustier

Basically, I just recycled an old black plain bustier that Eexuan donated to me....
Made a trip to Chinatown to get the extra feathers, rhinestones and fabric glue which costed me $10?
Taking reference to the pictures from the movie, I realized that most of the feathers were on the left chest area so I tried to make the bustier similar.

2)Tutu Skirt
The skirt was a separate from the top itself and I bought it from taobao...
My aunt made a trip back to China so she offered to buy it for me at no cost.
FREE! (but it must be like less than $10 for sure)

3)Heels
Didn't buy the heels just for this but I had it all along in my shoe closet. Perfect to complete the outfit.

4)Hair & Makeup

The hair wasn't a problem at all, because I just had to tie my hair into a bun. Bought this clip on feather thingy that I just clipped it on my bun.
One of the most crucial part of the outfit has got to be the face makeup. I was looking for the white base paint and randomly bought it at a costume shop @fep. IT WAS HORRIBLE.
Like it gave my face a very oily finish which made it even harder to draw the black strips etc.
Sigh......... but thankfully, I just tried to use whatever I have.

Michelle phan's tutorial was VERY USEFUL.

I guess one of the reasons why she gets so many views on her videos is because she caters to the asian crowd.
Oh I did give the red contact lenses a miss because I've sensitive eyes.
Didn't miss this out either. Spammed black and silver eyeliner on my hands.

Whole outfit cost: $30?!?
HOW CHEAP IS THAT!
My friend told me that she bought her superwoman outfit from a store at $80....
What........

The whole preparation took about 1.5 hours and it was time to head out!

Unfortunately, it was a little bit too late so I was only able to catch a few interesting costumes.

Jason from Friday the 13th!

People were suppose to be scary on Halloween so I don't know how this group fitted into the theme but it was humorous that they dressed cohesively as a group.

Can you guess what Dave was? HAHAHA

Funniest outfit of the night has got to be this.
She had to walk sideways like a crab because of the frame.

Was already making my way to Zouk and look who I saw!
A little ballerina. She was such a sweetie because she kept looking at me and smiling, telling her mum that she wants a picture. Awww

Moe was a unicorn . Bet it felt like an oven in there.

Irina was the girl version of Thor. Sadly, we didn't see any cute guys in a Thor outfit.

The night ended earlier as usual because I had a bad headache by the end of the night.
It was such a long day because Irina and me had FFO till 10pm.
We signed up for Race the Dead, Singapore's first zombie race therefore it was important to get ample rest.
Xuan and I did our part by dressing up as dead Mexican dolls. The face painter only drew half of our faces as requested.

Till next time,
Amelia

Mid-Autumn Fest

Oh my,
The past 2 days has been very eventful but I shall keep the updates for later.
Remember how I raged in my previous post that the draft got deleted?
Therefore, I am posting this again.
Here we go,

/Friday Night
Haven't been visiting my adorable god son for awhile due to work so I went to his place on Friday.
He has lost a bit of weight thus making him easier to carry .
His cheeks are still as chubby as before and he loves to play with my hair, just like all kids do.

Doesn't he look like the baby buddha or something?

/Sunday
There was a little Mid-Autumn gathering at Charlotte's place.
Been a long time ever since I have celebrated such an occasion with my family/friends.
I love playing with candles when I was a little kid but I guess everyone has probably grown out of it.
Charlotte, Eexuan, Katherine and me went to her place to have dinner prepared by Char's mum.
Home-cooked food is honestly the best thing.
Ivy was enjoying herself in SFO, didn't manage to join us :'(
There was a little dress code amongst ourselves.
Can you guess what was it?

Butter came too!!! Look at her silly face with those ribbon clips and scarfs.
So much for a gathering, everyone was busy posting photos on instagrams.
We all had minion lanterns so I came up with the idea to put butter on the floor beside the minons.

Look at those puppy eyes of hers. She must be wondering what is happening.
LOL after which, THIS HAPPENED

A family photo with Butter's owners!
Eexuan came up with the idea of clipping poor Butter's hair up.

That's it for now. Gotta get back to my project work.
1.5 weeks before my internship ends. CAN'T WAIT.
Anyway, been researching for a few places to visit for my graduation trip next year and I finally settle on..
GERMANY!
So looking forward to it but meanwhile I shall work my ass off so I can cover the spending cost ;-)
Tired

How to get ace your first job interview.

After conducting close to hundreds of interviewees for the past 5 months, I think I had enough! One of the daily jobscope that my internship involves is attending to walk-in interviews. There were all kinds of people coming in for interviews. Fresh grads, senior citizens so on and forth because it was for a big company with many postions afterall...
Some people made a big impression but some did not.
Here are some points to help you throughout your first job interview:

1) BE CONFIDENT.
Interviewing for your first job may be stressful and you can't help but to feel nervous. Confidence is clearly important. It projects that you can do your job well. However, do not ever be over confident because it can come off as being arrogant. There are many ways to potray confidence such as a firm handshake (NOT TOO FIRM, this lady cracked all of my fingers while she was shaking my hand this morning), a delightful smile and your body language. Remember the three Cs. Stay calm, collected and confident

2) ALWAYS BRING YOUR RESUME/QUALIFICATIONS
The one big mistake that interviewees always make is not preparing their resume. Its the most significant document that the employer will always ask for. By handing in your resume, its gives the employer an in depth understanding of your previous work experience. Qualification certificates are also important. Interviewees often say that they have graduated with a Degree/Master but how is the employer gonna believe you without your certificates?!

3)RESEARCH
Always always know what position you are interviewing for. The background of the company itself. What does the company specialize in? I have people coming up to me to apply irrelevant positions that the company does not offer. For example, my company is in the hotel management industry and yet the interviewee is here for a Flight Attendant Position. I'm like....

WHAT?????
The more you know about the company and the position will impress the interviewer.

4)KEEP IT SHORT AND SIMPLE
One of the first few questions the interviewer would ask is to introduce yourself or tell me more about yourself. Remember! Keep it short and simple. Although it is always recommended to have a longer conversation not just one or two liners, but please keep it short. The interviewer doesn't have the whole day to listen about how your dog died, how many siblings you have, how your life was back then the past 093480198413 years.

Always start off with your name and your relevant work experience to the position you are applying for. Also, other skills that you have or what can you bring about upon entering the company.

5) BE PUNCTUAL
Whenever you have a pre arranged interview, be punctual.

If you are late for an interview, it is the first indication to the interviewer that the interview is not of utmost important to you.
Stuck in the rain? Something urgent happening last minute so you are unable to go down?
GIVE THEM A CALL!

Jenna Marbles hehe

6)Don't expect too much
Some interviewers tend to reject applications even when the interviewer had an impressive job interview. Mainly due to them expecting too much in salary or position wise. Some interviewers come in expecting a Executive or Managerial position when they do not have ANY or related experience.

Everybody has to start from scratch. Another point to note is never ask what benefits you can get from joining the company. You have not lock in the position itself and you're expecting benefits?!

7)Dress smartly
Last but not all, dress appropriately for your interview.
From the moment you walk into the company, employees are already judging you from your first impression.

DRESS TO IMPRESS.
If your dressing is sloppy, people probably think you do sloppy work. For example, if you are interviewing for a paralegal position at a law firm, white shirts, ties and suits is a must. If you are applying for a graphic designer position, you can afford to dress more creatively.
Tadahh!!!!! Here are the simple steps in aceing your very first interview.
I hope it helps!
